Majoy Baron From Tarlac Is UAAP'79 Most Valuable Player

De La Salle University middle spiker Majoy Baron is the Most Valuable Player of the UAAP Season 79 women's volleyball tournament.

Baron, in her fourth season with the Lady Spikers, anchored the defending champions' net defense while also becoming one of the most efficient attackers and servers in the league.

She scored a total of 147 points on 89 attacks, 34 kill blocks, and 24 aces for a La Salle team that went 11-3 in the elimination round and is now up 1-0 in the Finals over the Ateneo Lady Eagles.

Meanwhile, National University superstar Jaja Santiago is the league's Best Scorer, Best Spiker, and Best Blocker.

Santiago ran away with the scoring race, tallying 268 points on 195 attacks, 49 blocks, and 24 aces. It is a measure of comfort for the towering Lady Bulldog, whose NU squad failed to make the Final 4 in Season 79.

La Salle captain Kim Fajardo won the Best Setter award for the third time in her career, just edging out Ateneo's Jia Morado. Fajardo also earned Best Server honors.

La Salle libero Dawn Macandili is the UAAP's Best Receiver for the second straight year, but University of the East's Kathleen Arado edged her out for the Best Digger award.

The awardees will be honored ahead of Game 2 of the UAAP Finals on Saturday at the Araneta Coliseum.

Ateneo's Jules Samonte won Rookie of the Year honors.

Everyday, our OFWs show the meaning of empathy, generosity and compassion; in fact, they exemplify the way Filipinos love, treating their "alagas" as their own. There are so many of them, but here's a famous personality named Ellen Degeneres who have spoken highly about her Filipina nanny and the impact they have made in their family's lives.

The full-blooded Pinay, whose real name is Luzviminda Casimiro, "Mindy" is a pure blooded Filipina who hails from Tarlac. Her husband, Joel "Boyet" Casimiro, also works for Ellen as a driver. They have been working for TV host-comedian Ellen DeGeneres for about ten years already.

Mindy’s latest assignment involved interviewing Hollywood stars after they won their coveted trophies. She was able to chat with Jim Parsons, Melissa McCarthy, Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell and Guy Pearce.

Wearing a white T-shirt and beige slacks, Mindy started her segment by putting on huge drop earrings.

Her first guest was Jim Parsons, Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for Big Bang Theory. As he sat down for the interview, he politely told the Filipina, "Nice to meet you."

Mindy enthusiastically told the actor, "I’m so excited when Ellen told me, ’Mindy, you’re going to the Emmy’s to interview big celebrities’ and now here I am, I’m in front of you."

Jim responded by saying, "I’m nervous to meet you ’coz you work for Ellen."
